For me, this whole hardcore thing started some 20 years ago. I still remember the day - sitting in class scribbling my favorite metal band logos on my notebook when this kid sitting behind me suggested that if I liked thrash and speed metal I should check out some hardcore bands. One of the bands he mentioned that day was Sick Of It All. I was open to the idea and soon found myself ordering "Blood, Sweat & No Tears". When the cassette (yeah it was a cassette) showed up in the mail I hurried to my room, popped it in the deck and hit play. What then came out of my speakers hit me like a ton of bricks! I mean, eventhough I had listened to underground music for a couple of years at that point, there was a drive and energy from that record that seemed so fresh and unique. Not to mention the lyrics. Of course, the only written lyrics included were from "Injustice System", but looking at the song titles and listening to the vocals these were subjects that hit home and in many cases were things not only that I was able to relate to but could even apply to real life situations I was facing at the time. I knew right then and there this was a defining moment in my life!
With that said, Sick Of It All will always stand out in my mind as a unique band, not even taking into consideration their rarely seen longevity and hard-earned accomplishments. Thus, there is no question that I am looking forward to their new full-length album, "Based On A True Story" which is scheduled to be released later this month through Century Media Records (Europe - April 19th / US - April 20th). Below are some videos the band has posted with Lou and Armand explaining the meaning behind each of the tracks off this release. Enjoy!
